Overview
The Art 9/10 course will be an introduction to the four major art forms: Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, and Sculpture. In this course students will have an opportunity to learn the history, terminology and basic skills of creating art, while learning in a cooperative environment that will promote strong social responsibility in the classroom. All students will receive handouts for all projects that will cover specific techniques to art history. These handouts will be a valuable resource for the student as well as an aid in improving student literacy and numeracy.

Exploring Specific Drawing Techniques
*all drawing will be done using a variety of drawing devices.

1. Breaking down a drawing in to general shapes.

All students will participate in a study of down town Vanderhoof. This project will be refined and completed using all of the above skills. This will be their final project of the drawing unit.
Introduction to Printmaking
The print making course will offer an introduction to basic printmaking (Relief) techniques in both woodblock and linoleum block printing. The student will also learn the history of printmaking, and the cultural impact it has played in the developing world.

Introduction to Painting
In this introductory unit the student will learn about the basics of painting. The unit will cover a brief history of painting as well as a variety of painting techniques.

Introduction to Sculpture
In the sculpture unit the students will learn about the history of sculpture and how to plan and create a three-dimensional work of art.

Exploring Other Forms of Art (Bonus Marks)
There are many different forms of art, in this unit the student will have the opportunity to explore an art form that catches their interest. It can be from one of the four genres as outlined in this course, or it can be a new art form or a technique that we did not have the opportunity to explore. This unit is a bonus mark unit only for those who have completed the above criteria.
